The girls have been at MSA hospital in Abbotsford for one week now and they are both doing well. Makaila weighs almost 7 lbs. and Faith is approximately 5 1/2 lbs. They are even starting to outgrow some of their premie clothing! I (Karyn) have been going to the hospital for two feeds every day. This takes about 4 hours. It's quite a long process to feed two little girls who are just learning how to suck. Right now they are both doing a combo of breastfeeding, bottle and tube feeding. As they get stronger and can suck for longer periods of time, the tube feedings will eventually stop. While both girls are considered stable, we were reminded the other night just how fragile they still are. Faith had a massive "brady" (low heart rate) and "desat" (low Oxygen level) following one of her feeds. She turned blue and took a few minutes to recover. Needless to say, it was a very scary moment for myself and Grandpa (who was also there to witness everything). I left the hospital that night feeling relieved that they are not at home with me yet.
So far nothing has been said to us yet about when we can expect the girls to come home. We know the date isn't too far off though, so we're busy getting our home ready. We've recently been trying to get Isaiah accustomed to sleeping in his "big boy" bed - which has been a challenge. We were hoping that we could contain him in his crib a little longer (until he was 2 maybe?), but he started climbing out of his crib last week and had a few rather painful crashes onto the floor. He still doesn't understand that he has two sisters who will be joining our home shortly...so we're trying to do everything that we can to make the transition as easy as possible.
As always, thanks again for your ongoing support. We cannot thank you enough for your encouragement, visits, cards, gifts and most importantly...prayers. We have felt people around the world praying for us. Our God is so amazing! I feel absolutely overwhemed with thanksgiving that Faith and Makaila are both doing so well. They are truly MIRACLE babies!

How wonderful! It must make such a huge difference to have the girls in Abbotsford. Praise God for his miracles!
A tip regarding climbing toddlers: you could try putting Isaiah in a sleep sack / bed bag / bunting bag. (Everyone seems to have a different name for them). You can get them in large sizes. Elijah still wears one and he's 2.5 years already. It keeps him warm (since he kicks off his covers) and keeps him from being able to get his legs over the side of a crib or playpen. The one we have is roomy enough that he can stand and sort of walk in it too - he just can't climb. :-) It works for us.

Glad to hear that Faith is fine, though I admit hearing that incident was very alarming. Thank goodness God is watching over them and has provided the means for such great medical advances:) Regarding Isaiah, little monkey! I remember when Leigha was doing the same. We just lowered the bars so it wasn't such a climb, and then when she would come out, we would go right back in and put her back (right away), with no talking, no smiling, until she would fall asleep...that was until we got her toddler bed set up. Eventually they stay, but you have to stick with it. There will still be those "off days", but hang in there!
You don't know me but I have been following your story through Krista ( a fellow surrogate) who got this from her best friend and one of you is her youth pastor at church. Anyway, what an amazing story and what a miracle with how well you little girls are doing. I have been keeping all of you in my prayers since I first read everything on your blog. I was a surrogate and gave birth to twins at 31 weeks and they had to spend 8 weeks in the hospital and I know that was rough on the parents. You guys have amazing strength and I'm so glad that God has given you to strength to get this far and to keep going. I'm so glad that things are going so well and that hopefully soon your little girls will be at home with you guys.

Incidents like what you and grandpa went through brought back memories. God is good and it reminds us that your girls are in Gods precious hands.
More advice: (fun) We made it a goal to get Katelyn out of her crib before Jessica needed it so Katelyn wouldn't feel she was being kicked out because her sister needed it. It made the bed more special!
Hang in these last few weeks. They are the hardest because your so close to bringing your girls home - it's heart wrenching!
