Update on Faith and Makaila 3

Today Faith and Makaila turned one week and it was a better day for both of them. Faith remains stable on the respirator with not much change. She is still eating well, now up to 3 ml every 2 hours. Makaila has settled into being on the respirator again. She isn't on any oxygen which means she is getting enough oxygen into her blood on her own. However, working so hard to breathe on her own while on CPAP this past week has warn her out physically. Between that and the blood tests they have done to check her gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide levels), Makaila needs a blood transfusion. This is apparently very normal, as premature babies born as early as Faith and Makaila have trouble keeping up the production of red blood cells while they grow and develop outside the womb. If they were in the womb, as they should still be, they would have direct lines plugged into them in the form of umbilical cords that would be pumping all the blood with red blood cells they would need. We expect both Faith and Makaila will need multiple blood transfusions so we are not too concerned.

Both Faith and Makaila appear to be coming down with something, but we are waiting for their blood cultures to come back to tell us what they have contracted so it can be treated properly. So far, they are not seriously ill by any means so we hope finding out what they have will lead to a quick treatment before anything does become serious. A day like today after a day like yesterday is apparently the norm. This is the roller coaster reality of having children in the NICU. I guess we get double the ride with two though!

So glad to hear that the girls had a better day. I pray that an earlier posting means a better night sleep! We continue to lift up your family to the Lord for his healing hand of protection and strength.

Thank you for the update - we're praying that whatever the babies have contracted that they will be treated well and heal quickly.

Here's a verse we like "because he loves me,"says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him and honour him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation".(Psalm 91:14-16)

We continue to pray God's promises for your deliverance. We know that He is faithful!

May God surround you with His supernatural peace, love and strength every single day of this trial.

Love,
Karla & Daryl & the boys.

Hello...my Aunt Gwen sent me your web page. My heart goes out to you and your babies. I wrote my aunt and told her that our Music Minister's daughter had a little boy nearly 2 1/2 months early. Little JC was 2 lbs, 11 oz and 15 inches long. He was a little guy. However, through the Grace of God and the prayers of His people, little JC came home this past Friday. He had been in the hostpial for 5-6 weeks!! So, we will pray for your little precious babies! God is good!

Hi Karyn and Graham,
I sure do miss you and wish I could be closer. You are in my thoughts and prayers very often. Reading through all of your entries brought tears of joy and love and concern to my face. God is so evident in you, in your family, and in each and every day. Thank you for inspiring me through this "tumoultuous journey" you are going through. Keep being strong and keep allowing God to be that strength in you. Faith and Makaila are amazing little girls (already they have affected so many with their little lives and will affect so many more throughout their lifetimes). I love you guys so much and send lots of hugs. Know that you are so precious to God and so many people. I know I'm being a little longwinded (for a blog comment :) ) so I'll end it hear for today.
Praying for you,
Laura (for Kevin and Olivia too)

We attend the Fort Langley E.V. Free Church and heard, via email, about your miracles arriving early. Currently we are on vacation in California and now we have friends here praying for your family as well.
We are specifically praying that the Lord will continue to hold your girls in His hand and strengthen their lungs day by day.
I think of you Karyn, praying that you will continue to share the thoughts of your heart, releasing yourself to the Lord. Graham, wow, I don't even know you but can tell that you have a Solid Rock to lean on. Bless your new family of 5,

We are praying for you every day. Your blog is helping us pray specifically. My grade three class prays for you every day as well. They pray that Faith and Mikaila get healthy. Almost every eight year old in my class lifts your family up in prayer each day. We are thinking of you as you embark on this lengthy journey of faith.
Love from,

We think of you daily and ask God to keep breathing his life and health into your family. It was special to see pictures of your sweet girls. We compared their little bodies to the size of Karyn's finger - wow! They are little miracle babes!

Graham,Karen and Crew,

Your family has brought new meaning to the word life and all it entails. The little worries just do not amount to what you are going through. I think about you all constantly and take pride and comfort in the amount of love and strength that your family has shown! Your babies are beautiful and I can't wait to meet them and teach them naughty tricks. I'll warm up on Isiah. Watch out, I'll be home at Christmas! I love you guys so much and send my love and strength to you from Calgary everyday! Hang in there and keep believing.

Love Always,
Kelly!

Dear Graham and Karyn,

Colleen has kept Mike and I up-to-date on the health of your new, beautiful daughters. We are thrilled that you get to experience the awesome privelege of raising girls and we're certain that Isaiah will grow to be a model big-brother!
I've shared your miraculous story with the staff at CVCS and have my class of 4/5 students also praying for Faith and Mikaila.
As we were reading through the comments on this blog, we were touched by the number of Christians coming together in prayer for Faith and Mikaila. We feel honoured to be able to join our brothers and sisters in Christ to lift up the needs of your daughters and are so thankful for the healing power that God continues to bless them with.
May you find time to rest!
Mike, Tina and Kaileigh Jones
